Rafa Outsted by Belgian

Today our dreams of a Federer-Nadal quarterfinal here at Wimbledon die as quickly as they had begun, as Nadal has been defeated by Steve Darcis of Belgium 7-6 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4.

Nadal had been dealing with some knee ailments following his victory at the French Open, but there were no signs going into the match that this would be a problem. This marks Nadal’s first loss in the first round of a major tournament.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer moves on, defeating Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 in only 69 minutes. The Swed is attempting to win his 8th Wimbledon and 18th major, already holding the records for both. Certainly without Nadal as a thorn in his side, he’s got a better shot.
